Despite a slow start there has been some really exciting fishing culminating in a total of 2 black marlin, 39 striped marlin and 11 sailfish from just 4 boats in 11 days. There are packs of small striped marlin that make for some really crazy times. These fish are really aggressive in the strikes and once they arrive in to the spread take really hard. Not all the stripies are small, there are some better size ones too as well as a few decent blacks. Noticeable however has been the scarcity of dorado and other smaller game fishes but I’m sure they will come in soon. There were some nice dorado up to about 15-kg though. (more…)
This was rather a mixed week beginning with very rough conditions and difficult fishing but becoming calmer as the week wore on. The fishing also improved considerably and as well as there being a cohort of baby striped and blue marlin passing through there were also a few bigger black and blue marlin. Kamara II had two quadruple hook ups from striped marlin and there were even a few mixed strikes of stripey with either black or blue marlins. Other game fishes were really rather few and far between with a few more dorado towards the end of the week. (more…)
A very happy new year to all of you who may be reading this blog from time to time. The kaskazi (northeast) wind was somewhat delayed this season, which very likely has something to do with the El NiƱo phenomena that is affecting the Pacific and Indian Oceans at the moment. But, since new year the wind has been blowing strongly and there have been quite a few marlin about. The weather has also been rather unsettled with a cyclone in the Mauritius area last week and heavy cloud over East Africa bringing thunder storms and rain to some parts. (more…)
