Northern Kenya

Sea Adventures will be happy to take you on a safari of a life time to the far north of Kenya with a pick up from any port. The area around Lamu and Kiwayu is not as widely fished as the other areas to the south but provide for perhaps the most exciting fishing that Kenya has to offer. Whereas Malindi is perhaps the best known sailfish destination the areas further north are very likely even better.

The North Kenya Banks are becoming famous for not only broadbill but also big marlins and tunas. By all accounts the fishing for other game fishes, such as giant trevallies is second to none and by booking a safari with us you now have the opportunity of experiencing it.

Kiwayu

Getting there

Although we can pick you up from any port in Kenya the most convenient might be for you to fly in to Malindi Airport, spend a night at the Driftwood Beach Club and then start your safari the following morning. We can fish our way north anchoring at Ziwayu, Tenewe, Lamu or Kiwayu or all of them. If you like we can include an overnight to target the broadbill. To the north off Kiwayu Island the drop off is like off Shimoni, just 3 miles off shore.

Travel information

  • The weather

October and November are wonderful cruising months as the seas are usually calm. March is also particularly good because the billfish season extends longer in the far north than in the south. Usually by then the marlin season in the Pemba Channel is drying up but off Lamu/Kiwayu it carries on well in to April.

  • The boats

The boats are comfortably fitted out for cruising, and can accommodate up to four guests on either "Broadbill" or "Kamara II". Both boats are equipped with toilet, galley, a fridge/freezer, shower and even a barbecue. Learn more ...

Accommodation

There are lodges on Lamu and Kiwayu so if you prefer we could combine a fishing safari with some excellent accommodation on dry land. Obviously the live aboard option gives you more freedom in where we can go and fish.

Lamu
